Why This Space Exists

I created this space to honor a moment that many dental hygienists and dental professionals know well, but rarely name.
We are trained to move fast. To notice something, label it, decide, and move on, but oral pathology asks something gentler of us first. It asks us to pause, to really look, to listen to what tissues are telling us before we rush to interpret them.
Over the years, while teaching oral pathology and speaking with hygienists and clinicians across different settings, I’ve noticed something consistent: the greatest uncertainty rarely comes from a lack of knowledge. It comes from the moment before the diagnosis.
